Sears, J. C. Penney among firms cutting Ill. jobs
From Crain’s Chicago Business | Hoffman Estates-based Sears Holdings Corp. is closing a St. Charles store and laying off workers, making the retailer one of six Illinois companies planning a total of 505 job cuts in coming months. Meanwhile, J.C. Penney Co. said it will close its store at Springhill Mall in West Dundee in June, leaving 139 employees without jobs.
Sears latest store chain to woo Amazon affiliates
Sears Holdings Corp. on Thursday invited sales affiliates worried about losing Amazon business to direct their online traffic to Sears.com. The Hoffman Estates-based company joins a growing chorus of other retailers looking to cash in on Amazon’s battle with state governments over collecting sales tax.
In an open letter written Thursday, Sears eCommerce President Imran Jooma said he wanted affiliates “around the country to know that you have a place with us.”
Amazon.com, the world’s largest online retailer, relies on a fleet of deal sites and other online portals to direct customers to Amazon.com. The affiliate websites typically send potential customers to Amazon’s website in exchange for a cut of sales. Get the full story »

Sears Holdings Corp.’s fourth-quarter profit fell 13 percent as the retailer continues to struggle with declining sales of appliances and apparel and its namesake Sears department stores.

Sears shares gain on strong 4Q projections
Sears Holdings Corp. projected fourth-quarter earnings that topped analysts’ expectations because of a lower tax rate, sending shares of the retailer higher.

Sears Holdings Corp. expects its fourth-quarter and full-year adjusted earnings to top Wall Street’s expectations.

Five years after the merger, Sears Holdings is beleaguered, with sales markedly worse than its competitors’. The company’s revenue dropped more than 10 percent from 2005 through 2009, the most recent full fiscal year. Sears, Kmart stores to house uniform shops
Sears Holdings Corp. signed a deal with retailer Work ‘N Gear to operate uniforms shops inside Sears and Kmart stores.
The shops, called Scrubology, are range from 600 to 1,500 square feet and sell uniforms for healthcare professionals including doctors, nurses, veterinarians and lab technicians. Get the full story »

Sears 3Q loss widens on weaker sales
Sears Holdings Corp. reported a larger quarterly loss, citing tepid sales of apparel and appliances at its namesake department stores.
The company, which also operates Kmart discount stores, said its net loss widened to $218 million, or $1.98 a share, in the third quarter ended on Oct. 30 from $127 million, or $1.09 a share, a year earlier.
