Associated Press | Oprah Winfrey’s charity, The Angel Network, is shutting down as her talk show draws to a close. The network stopped accepting donations this week and said on its website that it plans to dissolve as soon as its remaining funds are disbursed.

By Phil Rosenthal | Oprah Winfrey plans to do an evening program for OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, the new cable venture set to launch next year as she is wrapping up the 25th and final season of her Chicago-based syndicated daytime talk show.
The Wall Street Journal reported today that the nighttime cable show, “Oprah’s Next Chapter,” likely will make its debut in late 2011 and run as many as two or three times a week.

Winfrey was not scheduled to attend the event held to promote Discovery’s cable channels — including the Oprah Winfrey Network, a joint venture between Discovery and Winfrey — but changed her mind Tuesday afternoon and dropped in about 15 minutes after it started. Associated Press | Oprah Winfrey has settled a defamation lawsuit filed by a headmistress she had accused of performing poorly at her South African girls school, where some students claimed they were abused, lawyers said Tuesday.
The lawsuit by former headmistress Nomvuyo Mzamane claimed Winfrey defamed her in remarks made in the wake of the 2007 sex-abuse scandal at the school. The headmistress said she had trouble finding a job after.

By Wendy Donahue | All of the praise for Michelle Obama’s grape and tomato-colored sheaths couldn’t bear enough fruit to spare their Chicago-based designer — Maria Pinto — from the recession’s blight.
Pinto, whose work has been worn not only by the country’s first lady but also queen-of-talk Oprah Winfrey, will open her West Loop boutique for five final days starting Tuesday. Her daywear, eveningwear, wraps and one-of-a-kind accessories will be sold for 50 percent to 70 percent off their original prices.
