By Sandra M. Jones | Kohl’s Department Stores is going Hollywood.
The discount department store chain signed a deal with the Oprah Winfrey Network to sponsor the talk show diva’s new reality series. “Your Own Show: Oprah’s Search for the Next TV Star” and plans to hold auditions in its stores in June.
Open casting calls will be held a four select Kohl’s stores: in New York on June 5, in Dallas on June 12, in Los Angeles on June 19 and in Atlanta on June 26.
Contestants can also submit their auditions online from May 14 through June 26 at Oprah.com.
The Menomonee Falls, Wis.-based discount chain’s deal with Oprah is for a so-called presenting sponsorship, including paid media, integrations, online and on-air exposure, tagged tune-ins and publicity.
Kohl’s will also have a series of short, co-branded vignettes created especially for the series that will air both within and outside of the TV show.
Financial terms weren’t disclosed.
The program, co-produced with reality TV giant Mark Burnett, will mount a nationwide search to discover the next big TV personality. It is slated to debut Jan. 1 on the Discovery Health Channel.
The Oprah Winfrey Network first announced the show on April 8.
I will boycott Kohl if they sponsor Oprah. Oprah is a joke who is watched by feeble minds after “The View” shuts off.
