Chrysler recalling about 40,000 vehicles

| Chrysler Group LLC is recalling approximately 40,131 model year 2010 Chrysler 300, Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger, Dodge Ram, Jeep Commander and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles because of an ignition defect, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The recall is expected to begin in July of 2010.

Step 2 recalls ride-on buggies over faulty handles
Associated Press | An Ohio company recalled 2.5 million ride-on
toy buggies Wednesday, because a design flaw can allow them to roll away
uncontrolled.
The buggies, which resemble cars, have long handles so parents can push
them like a stroller.
Toyota posts $1.2B profit despite recalls
Associated Press | Toyota cruised back to profit in the latest
quarter as the world’s top carmaker cut costs and hitched a ride on the
global auto sales recovery while fighting to salvage its reputation for
quality.
But the automaker’s top executive and analysts alike said Toyota is
still far from a full recovery while another potential blow to its
image looms after U.S. federal authorities launched a fresh
investigation into a steering recall.
Claire’s has 19,000 charm bracelets recalled

| The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Claire’s Boutiques announced a voluntary recall of approximately 19,000
“Best Friends” metal charm bracelet sets on Monday, saying they contain high
levels of cadmium.
Cadmium, if
ingested, is toxic and can cause negative health effects in children.
The bracelet sets include silver chains, metal pendants that say,
“Best,” “Friends” or “Forever,” and heart lock and key charms made of
colorful stones.

McDonald’s Dillon named U.S. Cellular CEO

marketing chief Mary N. Dillon as president and chief executive officer
of the Chicago-based wireless carrier. Dillon starts at U.S. Cellular
on June 1, and will replace retiring president and CEO John E. Rooney.
She will also join U.S. Cellular’s board.
Dillon, 48, was most recently global chief marketing officer at
Oakbrook-based McDonald’s. Before that, Dillon was president of the
Quaker foods division of PepsiCo Corp. Dillon is on the board of Target
Corp.
LaHood to Toyota: More fines possible
Associated Press | U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said
Monday that Washington wants to see results from Toyota’s efforts to
improve safety, and more fines would be imposed if needed.
“If a fine is required, I think everyone recognizes now that safety is
our number one priority, and we will do all that we can to uphold the
laws in our country,” he said.
E. coli forces lettuce recall, 19 ill in 3 states
Associated Press | A food company is recalling lettuce sold in
23 states and the District of Columbia because of an E. coli outbreak
that has sickened at least 19 people, three of them with
life-threatening symptoms.
The Food and Drug Administration said Thursday that 12 people had been
hospitalized and the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
said it was looking at 10 other cases probably linked to the outbreak.
S&P lowers Baxter outlook but maintains ratings
Associated Press | Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services reduced
its outlook on Baxter International Inc. Thursday, but said Baxter’s
diverse range of products will help it deal with a recall of its drug
infusion pumps.
Standard & Poor’s said its view of Baxter’s credit is “Stable,” down
from a previous “Positive” outlook. The firm maintained its
investment-grade “A+” corporate credit rating on the company.
Auto industry supports ‘black boxes’ on new cars
Associated Press | A trade group representing Detroit
automakers and Toyota Motor Corp. plans to pledge support for requiring
brake override systems and vehicle “black boxes” on all new vehicles as
Congress develops new safety improvements following Toyota’s large
recalls.
Toyota’s recall of more than 8 million vehicles around the globe to fix
faulty accelerator pedals and brake problems with Prius hybrids has
prompted the first major changes to auto safety requirements since the
Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. tire recalls in 2000.
GM recalling Hummer H3s because of hood
The GM recall affects Hummer H3s produced since 2006.
Associated Press | General Motors is recalling all Hummer H3s
produced since the 2006 model year to fix a portion of the hood that
can detach during driving. The voluntary recall affects 164,190 Hummer
H3s and H3Ts in the U.S. and 198,404 worldwide.
Nissan recalling 135K Infiniti G35 sedans
Associated Press | Nissan Motor Co. said Tuesday it will recall
nearly 135,000 Infiniti G35 sedans and coupes to address a problem that
could lead to the air bag not deploying in a crash. Nissan said the
recall involves G35 Coupes from the 2005 to 2007 model years and G35
Sedans from the 2005 to 2006 model year.
Baxter CEO: Pump problems ‘languished’ too long
By Bruce Japsen | The U.S. Food and Drug Administration ordered Baxter International Inc.
to recall 200,000 of the company’s Colleague brand pumps, escalating its
scrutiny of infusion pumps used primarily in hospitals.
The FDA said the Deerfield-based drug and device maker must “recall and
destroy” all of its Colleague pumps, saying the action is based on “a
longstanding failure” of the company to correct serious problems with
the pumps. Baxter will incur a special pretax special charge of $400
million to $600 million in the first quarter to cover the cost of the
recall.
Honda recalls 167,000 Acura TSX cars
Associated Press | Honda Motor Co. is recalling about 167,000
Acura TSX cars to fix power steering hoses that could deteriorate and
cause a fire under the hood. The recall, announced Friday, involves
TSXs from the 2004-2008 model years. The National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration said on its website that high temperatures under
the hood could cause the power steering hose to crack and leak power
steering oil.
Sales of recalled Lexus GX460 SUV resume

Associated Press | Toyota says it has resumed sales of the 2010 Lexus GX460 and the software fix to repair the vehicle stability control system is now available at dealerships.
Toyota recalled nearly 10,000 of the SUVs last week because of possible rollover dangers. The announcement came after Consumer Reports issued a rare “don’t buy” rating over concerns the vehicle could flip in tight turns. Lexus Group Vice President Mark Templin says dealers began contacting owners Wednesday to schedule the software update. He says the automaker is confident the changes will make the performance of the GX better for customers.
