ELITE STREET | By Bob Goldsborough | A 19-room, 17,000-square-foot mansion in Hinsdale that is owned by the founder of the Addison-based Pampered Chef kitchenware company has just come on the market for $6.8 million.

Doris Christopher founded the Pampered Chef and then sold it in 2002 to Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway company. Now, Christopher and her husband on Oct. 9 placed their mansion, which sits on a 1.9-acre hilltop in east Hinsdale, on the market.

Their $6,336,500 purchase of it in 2003 was the highest sale price ever in Hinsdale at that time.

Built in 1956, the Christophers’ six-bedroom stone mansion has eight full baths, three half baths, nine fireplaces, a first-floor master suite, an elevator, a family room with a 13-foot ceiling and a variety of interior finishes including onyx, marble and woodwork. Naturally, the mansion’s kitchen has “all the latest appliances,” according to listing information. Outside on the property are a full-sized swimming pool, a grill terrace and a pool house.

“It’s an absolutely fantastic property,” said listing agent Daniel DeBoo of Koenig & Strey. “It’s a great home for entertaining, and it’s well-suited for a corporate owner or a person that has their own business that likes to do a lot of entertaining.

And the fact that it’s on 2 acres gives it a spacious feeling. And with the outdoor amenities like the swimming pool and the pool house, it makes it a family-friendly property. Plus, there’s some living quarters there if (a new owner) wanted to have in-laws or an au pair live there.”

The Christophers are “downsizing,” DeBoo said.
