A Michael Jordan-branded restaurant is returning to Chicago after a 12-year absence.
Michael Jordan’s Steak House will open in late summer in the second-floor dining room and ground-floor bar area of the InterContinental Chicago on North Michigan Avenue.
Chicago-based Strategic Hotels & Resorts, which owns the hotel, will own the restaurant. InterContinental will manage it, while licensing the Michael Jordan name from Jump Higher LLC, which is based in Chicago and managed by The Cornerstone Restaurant Group. Get the full story »

From Restaurant News | Greg Carey, president and chief operating officer of Chicago-based Flat Out Crazy Restaurant Group, says his company plans to start growing again over the next 18 months and has secured $8 million from U.S. Bank and HillStreet Fund IV to do it. The company owns Rainforest Cafe and P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, and is now targeting Texas, the Rocky Mountain states and the mid-Atlantic region for developing about six Stir Crazy casual-dining restaurants and about nine fast-casual Flat Top Grills, where guests create their own stir-frys.

Snowbirds and others outside the Chicago area might find it easier to get their Fannie May fix in the future. 1-800-Flowers.com, which in 2006 bought the Chicago-based maker of Pixies, Trinidads and Meltaways, has begun what it says is the first franchising program ever for Fannie May.
“We’ve only just begun our outreach to potential franchisees,” Fannie May spokesman Joseph Pititto said.

From Crain’s Chicago Business | Wingstop Restaurants, the Dallas-based chicken-wing chain, plans to add 12 locations in the Chicago area in the next two years to the 14 it already operates here.
