Former Bear Tait lists Mettawa house for $1.5M

ELITE STREET | By Bob Goldsborough | Former Chicago Bears offensive tackle John Tait has listed his 15-room stucco French Manor-style mansion in Mettawa for $1.499 million. Tait, 36, played with the Bears from 2004 until 2008. He retired in February 2009.

Tait paid $1.645 million in 2004 for the four-bedroom, 5,465-square-foot home in Mettawa. Built in 2003, the house has four full baths, two half baths, three fireplaces, 10-foot ceilings, quarter-sawn hardwood floors, millwork and a finished lower level with a second kitchen. The house sits on a 1.62-acre parcel adjoining a conservancy. Get the full story »

Ryan Dempster cuts price on home near Wrigley

ELITE STREET | By Bob Goldsborough | Chicago Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster has reduced the asking price of one of his homes near Wrigley Field from $2.25 million to $1.95 million.

In December 2009, Elite Street broke the news of Dempster’s $2.25 million listing of the 13-room Lakeview mansion, which he purchased in early 2006 from its builder for $1.715 million. Dempster placed the five-bedroom home on the market because he traded up to another, newly-built house a few blocks away that he had purchased in late 2008 for $2.69 million. Get the full story »

Actor Jeff Garlin buys Gold Coast condo

ELITE STREET | By Bob Goldsborough | Actor and comedian Jeff Garlin and his wife have paid close to $600,000 to buy a vintage six-room condominium unit on the Gold Coast, less than a block from Lake Michigan.

A Chicago native and a Second City alum, Garlin, 48, is best known for his longtime role as Larry David’s manager Jeff Greene on HBO’s popular “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Garlin also has appeared in more than two dozen films, including a major role in “The Bounty Hunter” and a significant voice role in “WALL-E.” Get the full story »

Nate Berkus lists Gold Coast condo for $2.65M

ELITE STREET | By Bob Goldsborough | Chicago interior designer Nate Berkus, who rose to national fame through his frequent appearances on the “Oprah Winfrey Show” and who now hosts his own eponymous and Winfrey-backed, New York-based talk show, on Tuesday placed his seven-room, full-floor Gold Coast condo on the market for $2.65 million.

Berkus, 39, has owned the 3,980-square-foot condo unit since 2003, when he bought it for $500,000. The condo is located in a small, 12-unit building that was constructed in 1928 and that “feels like a co-op building, with some of the vintage features,” said Berkus’ listing agent, Katherine Chez of Coldwell Banker. Blackhawks’ Bickell buys Hamlin Park town home

Chicago’s most expensive home gets $5M price cut

ELITE STREET | By Bob Goldsborough | A 26-room, 27,000-square-foot mansion in Winnetka whose owners once tried to sell it for $32 million saw its asking price cut by $5 million on Thursday, to $23 million.

Known as Le Grand Reve, the six-bedroom, chateau-style mansion, which commercial real estate executive Sherwin Jarol and his wife own, sits on 2.04 acres. Get the full story »
