JPMorgan faces foreclosure fraud suits

JPMorgan Chase & Co. faces two possible class action lawsuits alleging common law fraud and misrepresentation, as well as violations of state consumer fraud statutes, the U.S. bank said in a regulatory filing Tuesday.

In September, JPMorgan temporarily halted home seizures after finding glitches in foreclosure documents. Last week, it said it planned to start refiling the foreclosure documents within weeks.

Consumer Reports does not recommend iPhone 4

The results are in. Consumer Reports’ engineers have completed their testing of the iPhone 4 and have deemed it unfit because of poor reception.

“When your finger or hand touches a spot on the phone’s lower left side — an easy thing, especially for lefties — the signal can significantly degrade enough to cause you to lose your connection altogether if you’re in an area with a weak signal,” a July 12 Consumer Reports blog post said.

“Due to this problem, we can’t recommend the iPhone 4.”

Supreme Court taking up Janus mutual fund case

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday agreed to review a lower court ruling that revived a securities class-action lawsuit against Janus Capital Group Inc. (JNS).

Plaintiffs sued Janus in 2003 after the company’s shares dropped amid allegations that it and other mutual-fund companies allowed sophisticated traders to rapidly trade in and out of their funds at the expense of long-term shareholders. Get the full story »
