Former Bear Tait lists Mettawa house for $1.5M

ELITE STREET | By Bob Goldsborough | Former Chicago Bears offensive tackle John Tait has listed his 15-room stucco French Manor-style mansion in Mettawa for $1.499 million. Tait, 36, played with the Bears from 2004 until 2008. He retired in February 2009.

Tait paid $1.645 million in 2004 for the four-bedroom, 5,465-square-foot home in Mettawa. Built in 2003, the house has four full baths, two half baths, three fireplaces, 10-foot ceilings, quarter-sawn hardwood floors, millwork and a finished lower level with a second kitchen. The house sits on a 1.62-acre parcel adjoining a conservancy. Get the full story »

Blackhawks’ Bickell buys Hamlin Park town home

Bickell, 24, becomes the fifth current Blackhawk to own a home in a one-square-mile North Side area that encompasses parts of the Hamlin Park, West Lakeview and Roscoe Village neighborhoods, joining teammates Brent Seabrook, Troy Brouwer, Duncan Keith and Dave Bolland. Get the full story »

California Dish fight could affect Blackhawks fans

Chicago sports fans who subscribe to Dish Network better keep an eye on a West Coast carriage dispute in which Dish customers have not had Comcast SportsNet California since Nov. 24.

Potentially at stake is the access of roughly 360,000 Chicago-area homes — about 10 percent of the market — to Blackhawks hockey, Bulls basketball and Cubs and White Sox baseball.

Local bank whose CEO met with Obama must raise capital

A Chicago-area bank whose chief executive met with President Obama last December to discuss small-banking matters has been ordered by the nation’s thrift regulator to maintain certain capital levels, among other things.

Matt Gambs, who in 2008 joined Schaumburg-based Diamond Bank as its new chief executive, said that earlier this week members of its board of directors, including existing investors, pumped $1 million in fresh capital into the closely held lender, which also has a branch near the intersection of Clark and North in Chicago. Comcast SportsNet Chicago to replay Hawks games

Comcast SportsNet Chicago plans to replay the 16 postseason victories that gave the Chicago Blackhawks their first Stanley Cup championship in 49 years over five days, beginning July 10 and culminating July 14 with a late-night encore telecast of the victory parade and rally.

Hawks fans frantically look for last-minute tickets

| Blackhawks fans are hopping on planes to Philadelphia and snatching up whatever tickets they can find for tonight’s game, hoping to see their team take the Stanley Cup.

On Tuesday, brokers said they received a flurry of calls from Chicago fans wanting to buy Game Six tickets. Upper level seats at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia are starting at $400, local ticket brokers said. First-row seats on the glass are as much as $3,500.

“Everyone’s flocking down to Midway Airport to catch these flights (to Philadelphia) today,” said Paul Brown, manager of AAA Tickets in Chicago. “We’re hoping it comes down to Game Seven, but we’ll see what shakes out.”
