The Texas Rangers may be off the auction block, at least for now, after the baseball team withdrew its request to allow rival bidders to challenge a $575 million offer from a group of investors that include Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan.

A plan to build a massive shopping, hotel and housing development just south of Wrigley Field cleared another hurdle today as the City Council Zoning Committee gave it the go-ahead. Ald. Thomas Tunney again spoke in favor of the project, which would be built along the south side of Addison Street east of Clark Street, and the east side of Clark south of Addison.

By Joe Flint | NBC’s affiliates are worried that the network will stop carrying big-ticket sporting events after its deal to merge with Comcast Corp. closes.
In a meeting with commissioners and top staffers at the Federal Communications Commission this week, NBC affiliates said one of the conditions of regulatory approval of cable giant Comcast’s proposed takeover of NBC Universal should be a commitment to keep sports on NBC. Details of the meeting were disclosed in a regulatory filing by the D.C. law firm of Covington & Burling, which represents the NBC affiliate board.

| Blackhawks fans are hopping on planes to Philadelphia and snatching up whatever tickets they can find for tonight’s game, hoping to see their team take the Stanley Cup.
On Tuesday, brokers said they received a flurry of calls from Chicago fans wanting to buy Game Six tickets. Upper level seats at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia are starting at $400, local ticket brokers said. First-row seats on the glass are as much as $3,500.
“Everyone’s flocking down to Midway Airport to catch these flights (to Philadelphia) today,” said Paul Brown, manager of AAA Tickets in Chicago. “We’re hoping it comes down to Game Seven, but we’ll see what shakes out.”

Associated Press | Papa John’s International Inc. leapfrogged two larger rivals to land a deal as the official pizza sponsor of the National Football League and the Super Bowl.
The three-year, multimillion-dollar contract kicks off in the upcoming season and runs through the 2012 season. It’s the largest sponsorship deal in Papa John’s history, but the company would not specify a dollar amount.
