First glimpse of new Motorola tablet?

From Geek with Laptop | Google’s Andy Rubin appears to have shown off one of the 10-inch tablet computers Motorola plans to launch next year. Sanjay Jha, Motorola’s CEO, basically that Motorola will also launch a 7-inch tablet at some point next year,.

Rubin was showing off the new Nexus S phone at the “Dive into Mobile” event and whipped out a nameless prototype Motorola slim line tablet running Android 3.0 otherwise known as Honeycomb, a version of Android that is supposedly more suitable for tablet computers than previous versions. 7th delay likely coming for Boeing Dreamliner

From the Financial Times | Boeing is expected to announce by the end of the year that its troubled 787 Dreamliner will officially be delayed a seventh time. The program was halted last month following a fire aboard a test aircraft. More than a month after the incident, Boeing is yet to issue a new certification target or restart flight testing. A new timetable would likely move first deliveries to May 2008, more than three years behind their original scheduled delivery. Get the full story>>

Arizona sues BofA over mortgage modifications

Arizona is filing a civil lawsuit against Bank of America Corp. alleging the company violated the state’s consumer fraud law by misleading consumers trying to get loan modifications.

Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard said Friday that the bank also violated the terms of a 2009 consent agreement it signed requiring the bank’s Countrywide mortgage subsidiary to implement a loan modification program.

Delnor, Central DuPage Hospitals to merge

The parent companies of Delnor Hospital in Geneva and Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield said Friday that they have signed a definitive agreement to merge their operations into a powerhouse in the western suburbs with a combined $1 billion in annual revenue.

The deal comes as the health care overhaul law is being implemented over the next four years, triggering a wave of consolidation of hospitals and doctor practices across the country. Hospitals are looking to gain care economies of scale, pool resources to invest in information systems and clinical programs and gain negotiating leverage with insurance companies who pay them. Honda recalls 35K Passports in cold-weather states

Honda is recalling about 35,000 Passport sport-utility vehicles to inspect brackets on the rear suspension that could detach and lead to a crash.

GM recalls 111K Equinox, Terrain and SRX SUVs

General Motors Co. said Friday that it is recalling about 111,000 Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain and Cadillac SRX small SUVss because the anchor to the seat-belt buckle may fail, which could lead to injury in a crash.

SEC expands mortgage foreclosure probe

U.S. regulators have opened a new line of inquiry in their mortgage foreclosure probe and are asking big Wall Street banks about the beginning stages of mortgage securitization, two sources familiar with the probe said.

The Securities and Exchange Commission launched the new phase of its investigation by sending out a fresh round of subpoenas last week to big banks including Bank of America Corp., Citigroup Inc., JPMorgan Chase & Co., Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Wells Fargo & Co., the sources said. Leading indicators show strength heading into ‘11

A gauge of future economic activity rose in November, at the fastest pace since March, suggesting the economy will strengthen early next year.

The Conference Board said its index of leading economic indicators rose 1.1 percent last month — the biggest increase since March, when the index jumped 1.4 percent. Get the full story »

Nigeria drops charges against Cheney, Halliburton

Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency said Friday that it had formally dropped bribery charges against former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney and oil services company Halliburton  after the company agreed to pay a fine.

“It was formally dropped today,” Economic and Financial Crimes Commission spokesman Femi Babafemi said. He said the Nigerian government had agreed to an offer made by Halliburton to pay fines totalling up to $250 million.

Halliburton could not immediately be reached for comment.

U.S. steps up kickback probe of Hewlett-Packard

The U.S. Justice Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission are expanding their probe into possible kickbacks on the part of computer maker Hewlett Packard Co., a regulatory filing said.

The agencies have been investigating the Palo Alto, Calif., company for possibly bribing authorities in Russia and Germany. Now, the agencies are also investigating similar improprieties in Austria, Serbia, the Netherlands and the Commonwealth of Independent States. Get the full story »

‘Brotha Fred’ to fill ‘DreX’ spot on Kiss FM

Tower Ticker | Christopher “Brotha’ Fred” Frederick, a fast-rising radio and TV star in Charlotte, N.C., is coming to Chicago to take over the morning slot vacated by the abrupt exit this week of Kevin “DreX” Buchar from Clear Channel’s WKSC-FM 103.5.

“Chicago morning radio is a dream,” Frederick said in announcing his move Thursday night on “Fox News Edge,” which he has co-hosted on Charlotte’s WCCB-TV in addition to his “A.M. Mayhem” morning program on Clear Channel’s WIBT-FM.

Kiss FM said Friday that Frederick will start here on Jan. 17.

City planners back grocery-condo dev. in Lincoln Park

From the Chicago Sun-Times | City planners Thursday endorsed a mixed-used development on the site of the old Lincoln Park Hospital on the North Side in a rare move to override the wishes of the local alderman. The proposal by Sandz Development Co. calls for a Fresh Market store on the 3-acre site at Halsted and Webster. It also includes a medical office building, about 160 residences and public parking.
