Honda to stop selling too-big Civic in Japan

Honda will stop selling its Civic sedans in Japan because sales are lagging compared with smaller models, the Japanese automaker said Tuesday. Production in Japan of the gasoline-engine Civic for local sales ended in August, and will end in December for Civic hybrids, although manufacturing of export models will continue, the company said. Ford reports higher October sales

Ford Motor Co. says its October U.S. sales rose 19.2 percent, led by big increases in trucks and small cars. In the Chicago area, Ford’s sales rose 20.9 percent.

General Motors, Honda and others have already reported strong sales of crossover wagons last month, and Ford was no exception. Sales of the redesigned Edge crossover were up 24 percent, while Ford Escape sales rose 17 percent.

Honda launches 70-mpg Fit to take on Toyota Prius

Honda Motor Co. said on Friday it would sell the hybrid version of its popular Fit subcompact for 1.59 million yen ($19,310) in Japan, making it the cheapest gasoline-electric car on the domestic market.

The company expects to sell about 5,600 units a month.
