A federal jury decided Friday that Toyota Motor Corp. was not negligent in the design of a 2005 Scion, which a New York doctor said caused the vehicle to accelerate unexpectedly and smash into a tree, the automaker said.
The verdict in the federal court in Central Islip, New York, is among the earliest U.S. cases to go to verdict since Toyota in 2009 began recalling millions of vehicles over defects tied to so-called sudden acceleration.
Amir Sitafalwalla, the doctor, had argued that the accident was caused by defects in his Scion TC’s floor mats or its electronic throttle control system.
He also said Toyota had failed to install a brake override system that could have prevented the crash.
There are too many idiots driving, especially the foreign ones! Just put the car in neutral dopes!
