Winston & Strawn expands to Houston

Winston & Strawn has expanded its legal practice to Houston, where it recruited several lawyers away from a law firm that shut down this week.

Winston said Thursday that it has added more than 40 lawyers from Howrey, a national law firm that has been torn apart by partner departures over the last several months. The remaining Howrey partners voted to dissolve the firm on Tuesday.

Most of the Howrey lawyers joining Winston reside in Houston and work on intellectual property matters for their clients.

“We saw this opportunity as being a particularly attractive fit for Howrey’s IP and civil litigators in Houston because of Winston’s already strong presence in key industries such as pharmaceuticals and financial institutions,” Stephen Cagle, the office managing partner in the Houston office, said in a statement.

Winston now has 15 offices across the globe.

And they’re still letting Big Jim Thompson lie while he’s representing little Georgie Ryan for free. Did we miss Mrs. Ryan’s funeral, Big Jim? You said she was near death a couple of months ago.

Winston, please leave Jim Thompson in Houston. As a matter of fact, when George Ryan gets out of jail, send him and his family to Houston, too. They don’t deserve to live in Florida, Las Vegas, and any place that has an island like Costa Rica. Let them deal with 90 degree heat in May.
