Neiman Marcus is giving its 2010 Christmas Book an extra boost this year by distributing the famous catalog via Apple’s iPad.
The catalog of extravagant gifts, unveiled Tuesday, is an ode to the return of luxury shopping. And it allows tech-savvy spenders to view and purchase the gifts from their iPad.
Last year, the Dallas-based luxury retailer toned down its gift selection as the recession pushed big spenders into hiding. This year, with luxury spending starting to rebound, over-the-top fantasy is back.
A privately commissioned glass sculpture from artist Dale Chihuly runs $1.5 million. The sculpture will be installed at the bottom of a swimming pool. A MetroShip houseboat designed as a luxury loft that just happens to float can be had for $250,000. And celebrity party planner Colin Cowie will throw a Tequila Avion party for 75 of your best friends for $125,000.
For the kids, there is an edible gingerbread playhouse house, more than 6 feet high, for $15,000.
First published in 1926 as a 16-page booklet, the Neiman Marcus Christmas Book was initially intended as a Christmas card to the store’s best customers.
