A local bank headquarters and branch has been shut down due to mold.

Foster Bank at 5225 N. Kedzie Ave. was closed Friday and will likely remain shuttered for about two months while mold is eradicated, a bank spokesman confirmed Monday.
The Web site of the $554.9 million-asset minority bank, which serves mostly the Korean community, said the Kedzie location “will temporarily close while the building is undergoing renovation.” It asks customers to visit other Foster locations in Chicago, Niles, Arlington Heights, Lincolnshire and Naperville.

“Mold was discovered in the building,” a bank spokesman confirmed to the Tribune Monday.  He said the bank had received test results from a mold inspector, and the bank’s board voted to close the facility. He said the bank has owned the building for about two years.

On Friday the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation issued a proclamation under the Banking Emergencies Act authorizing the emergency closure.

Foster Bank’s majority shareholder is the Bae family.  The bank has been profitable through the first half of 2010.

Sort of like their Purple Hotel, that was supposed to be demolished a couple of years ago because of mold.

I know banks have had problems with toxic assets, but this is ridiculous…
