Elgin-based John B. Sanfillipo & Son Inc. said fourth-quarter net income fell 30 percent because of a change in income taxes.

Sanfillipo, which sells Fisher and other branded nuts, reported net income of $2.7 million, or 25 cents a share, in the quarter ended June 24, compared with $3.9 million, or 37 cents, a year ago. In 2009, the company recorded a $700,000 income tax benefit in the fourth quarter. Excluding income taxes, profits rose 29 percent.

Fourth-quarter sales rose 11 percent to $141.6 million, from $127.5 million a year earlier. The company increased the prices for pecans and walnuts because of higher acquisition costs.

Earnings were announced Wednesday.

For the full fiscal year, Sanfillipo reported net income of $14.4 million, or $1.34 a share, compared with $6.9 million, or 65 cents a share, in 2009.

Revenues increased 1.4 percent to $561.6 million, from $553.8 million.
