Thought your iPhone-toting friends were always buried in their phones? Seems Droid users are even more active Web surfers, according to a report released this week.
The average Verizon Wireless smart-phone owner gobbles up more of the network’s wireless data each month than AT&T customers, according to a survey of 20,000 cell phone bills by Validas.
AT&T has the most smart-phone customers, thanks in no small part to being the exclusive carrier of Apple’s iPhone. But Droids — Verizon phones from Motorola and HTC running Google’s Android software — have catapulted the nation’s largest cell phone carrier into the fast-growing smart-phone market.
Verizon’s smart phones clock 421 megabytes a month, while AT&T’s use 338 megabytes, according to the report.
These averages exclude the top-selling BlackBerry smart phones from Research In Motion because they tend to access far fewer Internet services than their Android and iPhone counterparts. Validas says it will release the full survey in September, but further details obtained by MSNBC from the company peg BlackBerry usage across all carriers below 50 megabytes a month.
Validas’ pool of consumer’s wireless billing information comes from its opt-in recommendation service for people seeking money-saving tips on their cell phone packages.

Probably because AT&T users can’t get a signal long enough to download anything to start with.

I keep seeing this article appearing in news sites but I have not seen any one mention the load factor based on the estimated total number of smartphone users on each network ( not just the one device avg based on 10,000 vs 10,000). I also would like to see the research company back out the data numbers for OS updates that are pushed to the devices by VZW.
Simple enough explanation: a large number of iPhone owners don’t actually use their phones to their fullest capabilities. They own an iPhone simply because that’s what all the cool and beautiful people do. Droid users, in my opinion tend to be more interested in actually using a smartphone, not just carrying one around to be an iPod touch that sends text messages and make phone calls.
I am constantly trying to find someone to alternative articles and reviews along with, I’m a undergraduate and also have a weblog here on our campus web site. The topic of this blog and writting design and style would go great in some of my category’s, tell me if you’re up for this.
