BluRay discs are on their way to 13,300 Redbox kiosks nationwide.

The $1-a-day rental kiosk company is offering the BluRay titles at  $1.50 a day and expects to expand to its entire network of 23,000 kiosk locations by fall, the Oakbrook Terrace-based company said Thursday.
Mitch Lowe, president of Redbox, said that BluRay has become an increasingly popular format and that the company, a subsidiary of Coinstar, wishes to “build on relationships that we’ve established with millions of consumers nationwide.”

Sales of BluRay players increased 103 percent in the first half of this year, according to Digital Entertainment Group.

The company had been testing BluRay in some markets and is testing video games in an attempt to close in on larger rival Netflix.

“The Book of Eli,” “Bounty Hunter,” “Brooklyn’s Finest” and “Green Zone” are among the first titles available, according to Redbox. And while not all locations will have BluRay, the rentals can be returned to any Redbox location.
