By Kristin Samuelson | The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Maytag Corp. on Thursday announced a recall of approximately 1.7 million Maytag dishwashers because they pose a fire risk, according to a CPSC press release.
“An electrical failure in the dishwasher’s heating element can pose a serious fire hazard,” the press release said.
No injuries have been reported, but Maytag has received 12 reports of dishwasher heating element failures, which resulted in fires and dishwasher damage. One kitchen fire resulted in extensive damage.
