By Bruce Japsen | Chicago investment firm executive Rodney L. Goldstein has been appointed chairman of the University of Chicago Medical Center Board of Trustees. His appointment takes effect June 3, when the U. of C. board is expected to confirm his appointment. Goldstein, who is currently vice chairman, will succeed James Crown, who will conclude his term as interim chair.

The high-profile post was last held permanently by Valerie Jarrett, who stepped down after she was named in January 2009 as White House Senior adviser to President Barack Obama.
“Rod’s background in planning for the success of varied enterprises will be invaluable as the Medical Center enters a critical period of growth and new opportunities,” said Dr. Everett Vokes, interim dean of the Biological Sciences Division and chief executive officer of the U. of C. Medical Center.

The U. of C. is building a new $700 million hospital pavilion expected to be completed in 2013.

Goldstein is chairman and managing director of Chicago private investment firm Frontenac Co., which the U. of C. said “makes long-term equity investments in closely held companies, and serves as a financial partner to them.”
